It’s Closing Day!!!

You made it - it’s time to close!! What to expect:

  • You MUST do a final walk-through before closing! If there has been any damage, or if there are any unexpected circumstances, you need to know about them BEFORE you sign any documents.

  • You MUST be at closing. Yes, closing will take place during regular work hours and yes, you will probably have to take time off work to attend. However, if you want to own the house then you have to show up and pay for it.

  • There will be MANY documents to sign if you financed your home (not so many for cash purchases). Be prepared to be at the closing attorney’s office for at least an hour.

  • Make sure you bring a photo ID (preferably a valid driver’s license) and checkbook to pay for any cash-to-close expenses that your lender communicated.

  • You will receive house keys, garage door openers, alarm codes, etc. from the seller after closing.

  • You will also receive a copy of all documents you signed from the transaction. Those documents are necessary to have the utilities transferred from the seller’s name to your name. Go straight to the utility company after closing to take care of the transfer in order to keep your water and power on!

  • Now you may move your belongings into your beautiful new home.

After all that stress, you can now decorate, unpack, get comfortable, begin updates/renovations, make friends with neighbors, and have family over for dinner to celebrate your new house.
